More than 2 years we had to wait for a follow-up to the grandiose album Fun With Knives. And admittedly it didn’t look like Bryan Erickson would live any longer or even bring anything off. But see, dead believing live longer ...
Twisted Thought Generator should be the 5th full-length album and stands out significantly against the preview albums, there are a lot of Dance- and Techno sounding sound samples coming. And I have to confess, I’m not glad about that. The preview albums were always distinguishing with a worrying depressing, gloomy and melancholic atmosphere, which is nearly close now, because of those samples. But to our luck, it doesn’t pass through the whole album. The Industrial crusher starts with Velvet Pill, a typical VAC track without any bits and pieces, as well as Asphixia, the pure instrumental Hypersphere and the last song Dilaudid. The rest of the songs have those Dance and Techno influences and are kind of affected. Would Techno freaks have more sense/ taste for this kind of great music, I think, these tracks would be played to a good reception in every dance temple. But to be sure, it wasn’t Bryan’s intention to sell his music in commercial way. He announced, that he would like to do an album with Dance influences and he did. But for that, this album is still pretty gloomy though.
In thematic respect, Bryan let us look into his soul, where all kinds of drugs and their effects play a part, his doubt in ego, betrayed relations and the lies of life, how they catch us, when you expect them least of all.
But, the best on this album is the fact, that the first to date unreleased album Dimension 8 is added as an mp3!!! 13 great tracks in the way of the previous albums ... wow. That’s really fucking great ! Surely, the production is not really thrilling, but in this case it is pardonable ... at least in my opinion.
Some things about the subject drugs: In the meantime Bryan Erickson refrains from his statements like „fun with drugs“ and he wouldn’t express them any day, nowadays. On Twisted Thought Generator he is warning his people to consume special drugs in special situations. And their effects on him he lets us see in his lyrics ... that’s worrying enough.
But it seems, he can’t help himself ...
