I
was not very happy to get the debut album of a Swedish Heavy Metal
band instead of the long awaited masterpiece of the German thrashers,
but in the end UNCHAINED turned out to be not as
bad as I expected. They are experienced musicians and the compositions
oscillate between aggressiveness playfulness. The most important
trademark are the guitars, which sound a lot like Adrian Smith &
Co. Also the singer reminds me of Bruce Dickinson sometimes, which
is not the worst comparison. So everything on this album would be
perfect: super melodies, super singer, super solo… But the
reason why I hardly bring myself to listen to Unchained is the exchangeability
sticking to the songs. Although the band offers everything demanded
by a Heavy Metal fan the songs sail along without leaving a mark
on me. There is a lack of original ideas and there is no final kick.
Now you also know why it took so long to write this review, but
maybe I’m the only one who thinks about the album in this
way. Normally I would give 6.5 points of rating, but with the really
great ballad I Dream UNCHAINED deserve
a little bonus. |
