Samurias, Katanas, dragons and... Black Metal?!? What? Yes, even stranger is the fact that there are actually Black metal acts coming from the small oriental-island country of Japan! And no doubt creating havok with a little help from my stereo. TYRANT has just released their 3rd full-length Grimoires. And, I just can't get over the fact that this band is from Japan, so weird! Even more strange is the early nineties style Black Metal garb covering an oh-so-very oriental face. But, that was no insult! It's quite interesting.

Technical, almost progressive styled riffs find their way all through this record. Along with some very classically inspired keyboard riffs, violins, cellos, and so on. TYRANT has created nothing short of a masterpiece. On the other hand, how many albums have we heard about Satan? It gets old after a while. However, despite the boring lyrics, the musical abilities of this band are a real treat! Unrelenting is the technical use of the fingerboard; coming into play also, is the wonderful skill of the keyboardist. This is an awfully strange album at first glance, being from Japan. But, they can make a dark soul dance just as well as any band from Scandinavia.
