TWILIGHTNING’s
sophomore release Plague-house Puppet Show takes
me back to the days of the late1980’s with bands like Steelheart,
Winger and Warrant lighting Hollywood’s sunset strip headlining
at the Cathouse (sighs in reflection in all the memories of the
glam music days). Despite of what the music industry has taken
its tool with the wave of nu metal and death metal there will
always be an underlining place for Heavy Metal. Unlike most of
the bands that fade into the memory of the past TWILIGHTNING
gives back to the new genre of listeners bringing back once again
music with a renewed discovery. Displayed in an album of contrast
flavor of rockin’ and melodic tunes these group of highly
talented individuals from Finland strike out again with a second
release from Spinefarm Records showing a new onset of songs.
Heikki Poyhia
vocals share a classic metal approach backed with duo guitarists
Ville Wallenius/Tommi Sartanen battling the powering driving rhythm
of Jussi Kainulainen on bass and drummer Juha Leskinen. Adding
to this musical land of melodic grooves is keyboardist Mikko Naukkarinen
holding his end to TWILIGHTNING’s songwriting
for which can be heard on Diamonds Of Mankind a Queensryche
meets early Dream Theatre style. Painting The Blue Eyes
a power guitar ballad well written for Heikki Poykia shares the
emotion behind the lyrics that mold with the song. Last but not
least the off setting side to this album is the vocal wailing
that might seem a bit to repetitive. Other than that a good album
with good polished production and a band that produces quality
music.
