Yeah, the
Norwegian fun troll metallers TROLLFEST strike
again, just one year after their last release Willkommen
Folk Tell Drekka Fest!!.
And again, they give impressive proof of the fact that you don’t
need to be from Finland, to be completely freaky ;) The second
album, again in so called “trollish” language (sort
of a weird mix of Norwegian and German languages) tells the story
of the troll Brakebein, and the adventures
he experiences on his quest fort the Legendarisk ØL
(The Legendary Beer). The challenges he has to master are as manifold
as the different songs are of varying styles.
The first track Legendarisk ØL describes in a
kind of wild musical style the legendary troll party and its large
amount of ancient brew for which Brakebein
is going to search. Then, in the second song Brakebein
himself makes his first appearance, gathering his men around him
and commanding them to join him on his quest across the sea, musically
accentuated by a mélange of rough metal sounds and jolly
humppa tunes.
During their mission, the horde has to deal with plentiful obstacles.
They have to face the pirate captain Busken (PiratKriegen),
who they finally manage to slay in true troll manner when he is
drunk. After that, while sailing across the sea with the captured
ship, they have an encounter with a dangerous MeerUngeheuer
(sea monster). This song might be the best, at least the funniest
on Brakebein, as it’s a combination
of Viking Metal, Humppa sounds and even piano tunes, what altogether
comes up as the ultimate party song. After the whole ship’s
company had a feast of the monsters corpse, follows the (sounding
very merry with beer and wine) drinking song Inni Den Grotte
with clean singing vocalist and a choir, which tells the tale
of nothing less than another legend, a cave full of unbelievable
amounts of alcohol *g*
Despite of another adventures and dangers the trolls unfortunately
don’t manage to find the Legendarisk ØL
and return home. Of course, they have a more then wild homecoming
party there!
As its forerunner, Brakebein is a very
entertaining album full of variations. You find anything from
classic drinking songs, folk metal up to really brutal stuff here.
And the four Norsemen proof beyond doubt, that they are not only
completely cuckoo, but also know how to handle their instrument
very well.
Guaranteed a CD for every Party, but I liked to listen it anywhere
and anytime so far… And it’s surely interesting for
German based listeners due to the Trollish language. I bet anyone
with some German skills will be able to unriddle some text passages
on Brakebein ;)
9/10 and hopefully the next album follows as quickly as this one
did!
