Talking about Doooooooom one cannot pass Thorsten “Reverend Odd” Frahling, for no matter what. So I’m not surprised to see him living out his passion on stage too, since this genre is quite clear and really good bands rare. Hailing from my hometown TORTURED SPIRIT consisting of Thorsten “Reverend Odd” Frahling (vox, git), Michael "MetalBasstard" Bolle (bass) and Markus "Metal Hubert" Etienne (drums) came into real life in the beginning of 2004, winding up the year with the first demo release called Broken Soul.
Three tracks running almost 22 minutes – that’s doom ;) Musically the band ranges into fields Wino (Saint Vitus, The Obssessed, Spirit Caravan) once created. While The Bend is at first more into the veins of old Black Sabbath, Human Taste is a classic 10 minutes running doom metal crusher and the prime example of what TORTURED SPIRIT is about. Broken Man closes a little faster and more energetically.
Sound and production are on a usual level for such kind of releases. Not really bad. One surely can get out a bit more of transparency between guitar and bass but on the other hand this sound still covers some small insecurities such a young band cannot avoid.
All things considered a hope-spreading demo CD from an ambitious band (probably the only doom band in my hometown). I’m quite curious what’s coming next. By the way … most of the 200 Broken Soul pressings are sold. If you still want to own a copy, hurry up ;)
