Goodbye
Cruel World - that’s the title of Berlin-based Goth
rockers TUNES OF DAWN third record and I’m sure many
will have pondered about its deeper meaning. Whatever it may imply,
musically TUNES OF DAWN undeviatingly push their things
through. Goodbye Cruel World rocks out a little
more as its predecessor Of Tragedies In The Morning &
Solutions In The Evening did but generally speaking, trademarks
are still the same: hard hitting Gothic Rock peppered with theatric
melancholy and fine irony (Refuse Resist, Tonight's Decision),
added by crunching guitars, keyboard work that is still too dominant
and too sweet and the dark and melting voice of Hagen Schneevoigt.
To cover Zeromancer’s Cupola might be not the best
idea, the original is unbeatable, especially since TUNES OF
DAWN are musically pretty close. In return the guys deliver
two splendid Rock ballads with A Warm Sigh At 6°C and
Upon My Grave. As for the rest I have to say that these
tracks just dragged on unimpressively. Too trivial, too common
and too close to various other genre bands. Too bad! I know TUNES
OF DAWN can do it better!
