After having
released an enchanting debut album in 2005 THE MOON AND
THE NIGHTSPIRIT now seamlessly tie in with the sophomore
entitled Regö Rejtem. Generally
speaking nothing has changed but – as it is known –
the devil is in the details and so there is again a lot to discover
on Regö Rejtem, form the details
an allover impression that is different from the predecessor Of
Dreams Forgotten And Fables Untold.
What already strikes me with the opener and title-track is that
band’s folklore is livelier. Agnes Toth does not sing in
too high-pitched and ethereal highs anymore and Mihaly Szabo adds
some raw background singing. Altogether I feel reminded of Hagalaz
Rundedance instead of Loreena McKennitt as on the predecessor.
Likewise vivid Szarvaslélek, Föld Szíve
Dobban and Rögböl Élet appear,
while the last song Holdtánc even reveals oriental
influences and nuances. Violins and acoustic guitars have an earthier
approach and instrumentation got enhanced. Now also zither, harps,
Kaval (traditional Bulgarian instrument) and Tapan (traditional
Macedonian instrument) can be found on this record. Selectively
used but though caring for much variety.
Regarding lyrical contend the duo immerse much deeper into national
legends and mysticism, emphasized by the use of the national language
only this time.
Again THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT have created
a wonderful packaging for their new record and again they have
delivered a wonderful piece of music.
