London based trio THE SEPIA have released their debut with Splintered, which is quite opulent with 12 tracks and three remixes. Founded back in 1999 the roots of Seifert, Smith and Rhodes go far back into the year of 1983. Since this time this trio is working together creating music and themes for visual medias such as TV, games, videos and DVD releases and more stuff like that. When THE SEPIA started producing commercial demos to send them out to labels, promoters and DJ’s it did not take long time to experience the first live show, making the band to a “real” band. After achieving many of good responses the band went back to studio to get their first CD together. And while Splintered finally got released the band is already hard at work on new material for the follow-up.
To describe their musical style is much harder. THE SEPIA mix up different styles and influences like EBM, Industrial, Techno, Ambient, Ethereal, Trance and Rock to a completely new, coherent and unique brew, you cannot categorize.
There are to find heavy and driving beats like in Seed, club crushers like Covert Passion and Venom, the intensive Ascension, many instrumentals showing the roots of the band e.g. Disto-sabE (with an oriental touch) and Shame Of God which perfectly would fit to hot action scenes.
THE SEPIA has found its own unique distinct sound, creating something innovative and new. 8 points!
