The debut
album of the Czech band THE RAYS OF THE SUN
is going round for the third time in my CD Player and even though
the thermometer shows nearly 25 degrees, the dark rock does
not warm me from inside. I can recommend Living
Flowers Gallery to all rock fans who like it bleak
or atmospheric from time to time. I would not say that the compositions
are of bad quality, but my personal flavour is quite far away
from THE RAYS OF THE SUN´s music.
Songs like Follow Copy are really predestined to lean
back and relax, although in the middle of the song the speed
changes a little bit and gets heavier. In my opinion this long
track (it lasts over 7 minutes) is the best one and shows the
potentiality in writing songs, which can and will be enlarged
in future – I am sure! Other songs pass by like a gentle
river, nothing really impressive happens, nothing extraordinary
or outstanding. Some tracks would need kind of acoustic fertilizer
to let the Living Flowers Gallery
grow!
Some songs´ parts are amazing like the cool guitar chords
in the song mentioned above, but the varied voices (female and
male) are a little bit poorly conceived to get the award of
being eminently valuable. On the other hand it is very positive
that the band is able to create an individual sound, this is
hard to do and I like this effort. The band can manage to do
a better album next time, if they work on the vocals, future
could look sunnier for THE RAYS OF THE SUN!
