Those, who
didn’t realize yet that Sweden is the current Mecca of Rock’n’Roll
has probably missed something in this life. But today I don’t
wanna deal with usual Punk’n'Roll a lá Hellacopters,
Black Metal, Death Metal, Hardcore and Melody-punk. No, I wanna
talk about THE MOVEMENTS, arising from the Ur-Swedish
garage rock scene, that made Union Carbide Production to such
a big hit at that time, now breeding bands such as the amazing
The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. And that’s where we range in:
THE MOVEMENTS seamlessly queue in this line of
mentioned bands and conjure up a stunning psychedelic garage rock
crusher. This debut album Grain Of Oats
could also be a best-of of the 60’s and 70’s. Everything
is perfect: a snotty but not too dominant guitar, an up-tempo
rhythm section by the drums and an organ wavering over the sound,
but though accelerating.
Of course, one will find some influences and leanings of tatty
Uriah Heep and Deep Purple, but that’s surely something
you can hardly avoid when using this dominant organ/keyboard thingy.
Since sort of retro-mania is reigning and in the lee of outsized
Soundtrack Of Our Lives I think THE MOVEMENTS
will grow up to something big too. I wish them all the best anyway.
And all those who like described sound should get the hands on
a girl to dance with, build up a spliff and celebrate a huge retro
party with proper “bad taste” stuff. Great! I want
more!
