Swedish gothic
rocker THE MIST OF AVALON are right now in search
of a new label home. To support their undertaking the band here
and there gives certification of earlier work away. But to me
it is a moot question whether it makes sense…
Anyway, this EP released back in 2001 offers solid but unspectacular
gothic rock ranging in the traditional field of Sisters Of Mercy
and old The Mission. You cannot do anything wrong with it, provided
that there is a minimum of technical and compositional skills,
but there is also not to expect a high rating. While lead singer
Aram Yildiz gives additional charm with his pleasing and naturally
sounding voice, the songs are lacking of character. So it happens
that the Sister cover Some Kind Of Stranger keeps a low
profile between all the other tracks, no matter if they have more
a rocking attitude (Tears, This Time) or a quiet one
(The Witch, In My Dreams).
Altogether, Tears it is pretty nice
to listen to, with a beautifully melancholic charisma but nothing
essential …
