THE FALLEN
WITHIN play driving, modern Thrash with nice chords, melody
arcs and vocal arrangements. Some calm elements loosen up the
tracks (like the contained part during The Great Fall)
and the voice shows up as a brownie point through its broad range.
What’s
my problem with Intoxicated? It is the keyboard!!!
It is obtrusive and destroys the fluency and the aggression, especially
at the beginning of this release.
What’s the highlight of Intoxicated? The felicitous
title track, which works with contrasting sentiments. The impelling,
grooving basis rhythm animates the fan to listen closely, ere
a contained part throttles the speed. Afterwards, the band speeds
up again – that’s the way we like it!
Unfortunately the band avoids this way of playing for most of
the time, because the keyboard breaks the aggression. Additionally,
I miss catchy refrains or hooklines.
In the end,
nothing positive stays in my mind except the two above mentioned
outstanding tracks. I can find too much trivial songs. What a
pity...
