I never have
heard of this British band before, although the info reveals that
THE ENCHANTED released an album called Trust
In Death And Rebirth two years ago. Well, then I
have to use this EP as my first point of contact …
For
Those Who Fall ... emerges as a quite unrespectful
work, since these four young Brits hardly care about any musical
borders. Due to the visual appearance I assumed to find the band
ranging either in Gothic fields or in Pagan Metal fields. But
kicking off with Where Fires Burn I got served a powerful
Death/Thrash mixture. Both stylistic influences sound pretty old
school. While riffs get skillfully mixed there is still enough
room left for a pounding middle part. In-between again one will
find blast parts as well as slight Black Metal tendencies. As
you may assume it sometimes sounds quite confusing. The same I
can tell about The Way Of The Warrior, but here clean
singing displays another side of variety. A feat, since both guitarists
share the vocals (but I don’t know who has which part).
Anyway, In A Dream … is likewise heavy, yet hectic
at times, while the closing track Under The Hall Of The Moon
dwells in a mid-tempo area, turning out much more melodic. Unfortunately
I cannot deny the fact that the riffing is anything than inventive
and the lead guitars pretty lame, although the technical aspect
is quite ok.
Concerning
enthusiasm, power and the pleasure to play THE ENCHANTED
know how to convince, but talking about compositions and arrangements
there is still a lot to improve. I guess the next album will shed
light on if the gents are able to eliminate weaknesses and focus
on the essence. So far I think a rating of 6,5 is adequate.
