Friends of
Tarantino’s movies will click on this review only due to
the band’s name. These six guys from Duisburg create works
that are almost as crazy as the maestro’s are. They denote
their musical style on Still Another Day To Come
as metal – pop. Well, I must admit my initial skepticism.
What the hell is metal – pop? Britney meets Joan Jett? We
have already heard of it! Nightwish go even more into pop? Please
not! Harder Banaroos for ten year old chicks? We have Tokio Hotel
for them! No, THE BONNY SITUATION throw together
all possible arrangements, far away from every musical trend,
and only in the end they look at what comes out. The result is
a varied, interesting mixture made of all possible and impossible
styles. Pop, prog, thrash, power metal and rock are huddled up.
While the opener opener Just A Fool sounds, due to it’s
keyboards, like Dream Theater, the following Incredible Hatred
runs steely paths. Also the up-tempo tracks The Bitter End,
Slipping Into Doubt and When It's Lost offer
enough strong metal riffs for everybody. Once reached The
House Of Mary Jane the band gets slower and some electronic
baubles are introduced. These fit perfectly, so that the song
gains atmosphere and reaches a very intensive density. And vocalist
Martin Kneifel has the chance to show once more his great voice.
The title track lurks with some thrash metal riffs, which penetrate
the melodic structure of the song. In the good fancy Pirate
Song THE BONNY SITUATION take the listener
to a little journey in a folk-heavy dive full of drunken sailors.
And with the 1:31 short Süx the band has also a
great satire about cads on board: “My cock is bigger
than yours, my balls are bigger than yours, my girl fucks better
than yours, my car is faster than yours” looooool!
I also must mark the strong production that doesn’t need
to hide from professional recordings.
THE BONNY SITUATION melt different musical styles
together and offer a very interesting piece of music with Still
Another Day To Come. Test it!
