THANATOS
are a classical death/thrash combo from the Netherlands. They
play death metal in the way of the first two Morbid Angel or older
Death albums, with violent guitar solos and lots of thrash metal
parts. Undead.Unholy.Divine is the title
of their fourth full-length album and their debut on the Greek
label Black Lotus Records. It features 11 fast and brutal songs
which make one feel like being transferred back to the 80s. A
raw, but powerful production adds to this impression, and all
in all one can say that Undead.Unholy.Divine
would have been a true treasure if it had been released 15 years
ago. Today, it still is a good album, even though there are a
lot of bands playing 80s style death metal today which makes it
difficult to write objective reviews. However, THANATOS
are definitely one of the better bands out there, as their song
writing is quite nice and they play with enough energy to convince
at least me that they are serious about what they do. Undead.Unholy.Divine
is a great album, maybe a bit too nostalgic here and there, but
definitely of high quality.
