Lurking among the dark shadows is TERATISM. One of the finest Satanic USBM bands still standing today. Originally released in 2010 Via Negativa has been resurrected on vinyl through Satanic label Behold Barbarity. The new blasphemous cover art was created by Mark Riddick and it's just as vile as vomit from a demon. It's so sick that it deserved a pull out wall size poster! Quite a spectacular release for a vinyl collector, as an ominous looking gatefold with totally different band photos adorning one side and spell binding lyrics spread over the other. Via Negativa required two records and three sides. The fourth side features more grotesque art by Mark Riddick for your viewing pleasure only. Via Negativa is the fourth full length from TERATISM, and one of their most impressive to date. Under the circumstances of chemistry and the unholiest of songwriting efforts can the factor euphoric devastation occur.
Elements are in place as Iesous Khristos Cambion begins and whisks you on a descent into the underworld of Hades. The disharmonic guitar styling of Murder are captivatingly diabolic.Dripping with dizzying riffs that only Satan himself could be proud of. The drums are a fury of demonic blast beats and variations of different timings. Vocalist V. Wrath sounds as if demons were spewing directly from his being. It's almost as if he is in the midst of channeling. On nearly every song it sounds as if he is casting the spells of perpetual evil with screams that are chilling to the bone. His vocal deliverance is especially disturbing during He Descends. Bass is abundantly present and rather fancy, not something that is common with most satanic black metal bands. It is actually cool to hear and it adds incredible depth to the songs.
The compositions on Via Negativa are structurally intense and terrifying. It’s as if they had some help from Satan himself. My Wintery Embrace is cold and malicious and profoundly exudes powerfully hypnotic riffing. From Serpent Loins, Poison Life seems to really capture an essence of evil incarnate. Satanos Thronos Esti (Via Negativa) can only be described as a wraith like instrumental except for the many eerie demonic screams that are present. If that song doesn’t put you under its powerful spell then you are missing the point entirely. TERATISM does a fine job at providing a fiery glimpse into hell with these ten compelling tracks. Via Negativa is an album that succeeds in igniting the black flames of Satanic devotion and devastation.
