Let’s go back a few years, shall we? Back to the roots of pure black metal. This is where all your favorite Norwegians got their inspiration. Thanks to Fenriz (Darkthrone, Isengard, Neptune Towers) you can take that studded leather ride back to the classics. This is an in your face, shout worthy release! This compilation features songs by metal legends like BATHORY, CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER, VENOM, and MERCYFUL FATE; and even some newer bands such as AURA NOIR and NATTEFROST. This is for sure the best compilation I have ever seen or heard! Something for the veterans to reminiscence to and something for the kiddies to learn the origins of the best music on earth! The first track, by Canadian metallers BLASPHEMY, although just an intro, you can tell this compilation is gonna kickass! After the first track tragically comes to an end, you spirits rise again as The Kings of Brazilian metal SARCOFAGO, kick in with their hit Satanic Lust. Let’s skip to track 4: NATTEFROST - Sluts Of Hell, this has been one of my favorite new bands to come out of the Norwegian black metal scene. Led by Carpathian Forest frontman, Nattefrost, I wasn’t surprised to see this band on this compilation. This is one of the best songs off the album. Now let’s move on! O! King Diamond if you weren't so scary looking I'd marry you! MERCYFUL FATE's Evil is one of the many highlights to this great sampler. Now let’s move on to yet another newer band, AURA NOIR, one of Norway’s finest in old-school black metal. Bringin’ the old-school back to the new school. Their heart-pumping Blood Unity is a good look at what a little dedication and hard work can do for the metal scene. Why can't all new bands be this good? MAYHEM! The unholy bringers of blood and fire! The band, that started the Norwegian Black Metal scene. Track 12 hits you with MAYHEM's The Freezing Moon. Lets go back...BEFORE CELTIC FROST. What do you have? HELLHAMMER! Yet another great reason why I love black metal. Then we have some real controversy, BURZUM's Ea, Lord Of The Deeps, a good song by a good one-man band. But the more I hear about Varg Vikernes and his violent episode on Euronymous, the more I want to punch him in the face. But of course, that’s just my opinion! But let’s end this in high spirits! BATHORY's Dies Irae is the way to do it! So, for all of you who know these bands, this is a good way to listen to the best without skimming through all your CD’s and tapes or going through the hassle of copying them onto CD. And for all you youngsters, these are the best of the best of old school black metal. Live and learn! And as they say; "Once you go black, you NEVER go back!!!" \m/ BLASPHEMY
