Just an inconspicuous
email that was not deleted by the spam filter let me know about
SINUSOÏDE. This French solo project is the
brainchild of Julien Pichard, who has now released his debut 2004
as a virtual album, which can completely be downloaded from his
website. Julien is around since 1990 and has earned his money
so far with creating music for short films and videos under the
moniker Dou.
With the intro, the first track Prisonniére Du Labyrinthe
and especially with the over 8 minutes running Canapé
comparisons with the legendary Slowdive downright suggest themselves.
But also the colleagues from The Cure and Indochine have left
their mark on SINUSOÏDE’s music. Speaking
about the creative side of the music and the atmosphere you even
can refer to French Morthem Vlade Art.
Julien does not commit himself stylistically, though. While 2004
kicks off quite psychedelic and melancholic, wallowing in almost
ethereal spheres, subsequent tracks like Tourbillon and
Pool have a quite rocking attitude, just to close the
circle with Le Navire and Départ. 2004
ends with the jazzy outro Stase. Jazzy piano dominated
parts can be found now and again in the tracks.
The song Garcss was created in cooperation with Lubnaroum,
who also partake in the spoken words on this song.
2004 is a wonderfully atmospheric and
surprising album, that captivates the listener, letting him flow
with the music. Would be cool to listen to more SINUSOÏDE
stuff soon.
