Under
the sign of Tangra (the ancient religion of the old Bulgarians),
the men behind SARAKT make music from the mountains
of the Balkan, existing for eight years now. Finally they managed
to bring out their debut CD. The result is very raw and dusty, but
the four long tracks have also real pagan majesty and an intensive
original atmosphere, which is supported by a barbaric and heroic
voice in recitative.
SARAKT play raw and ancient Black Metal, but it
comes not freezing, but with a true pagan Bulgarian hunger. Monotone
song structures never get boring because they hit the raw and heathen
nerve of the willing listener and arouse old emotions.
Quite wonderful are organ/synthesizer intermezzos with a warm tone
but a still brute approach.
I’m already looking for the SARAKT’s
next album with a hopefully better sound; the production on this
one is too dull.
I will not rate this record since its songs are sort of a compilation
from the last eight years. That’s another reason to look forward
to the follower, especially since this self-titled debut has left
such a mighty and barbarian impression. I gonna keep my eyes on
them! |
