This kind
of Metalcore made by RUMORS OF GEHENNA is such free from
surprises that there is enough space left to think about the band’s
name origin. So, who of you knows the meaning behind Gehenna and
what is it with the rumors around it? Gehenna [Hebrew »valley
(of the sons) of Hinnom«], valley in the southern of Jerusalem
(Wadi er-Rababe) with Canaan place of worship where children were
sacrificed to the god Moloch (2. Kings 23, 10); in late Jewish
time place of burning of debris and in the New Testament description
for the hell (Matthew 5, 29 f. amongst others). It seems that
is rumbled there quite boisterous. This place is far ahead of
the debut album Ten Hatred Degrees in this view.
What the Italian’s know how to do is the modality of handling
their instruments. The band, founded back in 2002, ranges at a
high level relating to their armamentarium. Beginning with the
fourth track Detoxication at the latest everything sounds
equal – nothing new happens. One by one Metalcore Up-Tempo-Track
passes on the baton quite polite between the Ten Hatred
Degrees without falling down to the ground, never thrown
away or transported in an unusual manner. Uniform can be very
nice, but with this one won’t do justice to the historical
archetype, as it is known already. An easy dash of melody next
to Thrash riffs doesn’t suffice completely in a production
that sounds aseptic plain and hides the vocals too much in the
background. That’s why RUMORS OF GEHENNA will spark
interest in scene-fetishist’s minds; all other should abstain
from the threatening brief rumbling in the stomach.
