If slow catching
melodies and poignant feelings are your cup o’ ale then
REVEREND BIZARRE is just that. One of things
that I found difficult about their latest CD In The
Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend is the lack of originality
and music emotion. On the upside the band has pluses on their
behalf is the elements of lyrical matter that go into the musical
composition but just like any other doom band, the long lengthy
songs are a draw back. Despite of what one thinks when getting
the album, this sets the mood of something melodically sinister;
due to the cover art that is printed with permission (via Musen
Lazaro, Mardrid) is that of the painting Witches’ Sabbath
by Francisco de Goya. A good concept of a CD cover concept by
the way!
First song
Burn in Hell is a slow moving Black Sabbath like riffing
with melodic tones in a doom like essence. Third song The
Hour Of Death seems almost Type O Negative flow style vibe
of that of Bloody Kisses due to the slow moving bass content and
drumming. Vocalist Magister Albert has a sense of inner turmoil
that one can hear throughout all the songs for which makes in
contrast to repeative. What is apparent with REVEREND
BIZARRE is their sound pacing tempos with meaningless
movements musically. Lacking any real enthusiasm. Asides the quality
of recorded production and packaging the group needs to spark
some life to their so-called doom atmosphere. Boring and depressing
is the major downfall to this bizarre bunch.
