Almost out of nowhere this second demo release of Finnish band REPRISAL SCARS lands on me desk. The unsubstantial info-sheet firstly does not awake any interest but the stylish artwork did and so my player got new fare.
Good idea, because these three tracks belong to the best I have listened to in longer time. Well-produced and refreshingly free of clichés, but still heavy as hell. The roots of REPRISAL SCARS can be found in Thrash and melodic Death Metal fields, though, they less focus on pace, instead they attach much importance to phat and intelligent riffwork and compositions as well as much power.
For a demo band this effort sounds surprisingly independent, I hardly get any comparison in mind. Soonest I’d like to mention Sentenced, but here with the hypothetical assumption that they would not have abjured from the principle of heaviness.
Melodically it suits well to the band since the songs (4th Victim, The Signs, Done Is Done) on Done Is Done are not only heavy stuff but also real catchy tunes.
You cannot do anything wrong when visiting the band’s homepage and downloading all three tracks for free :) Do it! And I’m sure, this band will be the next big thing if they do not stop anywhere in between.
