PROFANE BURIAL throw the title track My Plateau at us like an assault, without introduction or gentle preparation, with plenty of steam and pressure. The theatrical presentation with orchestral keyboards and biting vocals is strongly reminiscent of Dimmu Borgir in their modern-mechanical phase during the Death Cult Armageddon era. Somewhat abruptly, but nevertheless very important for the dynamics of the song, the musicians reduce the tempo in the middle section and thus create a good contrast of speeds. The guitars fight bravely against the superiority of the keys, whereby the harsh tempo changes at the first contact break the flow of the playing a little, especially on the second track Moribund the transitions are quite radical and create an unwieldy correlation. You shouldn't expect bold choruses or sweet hooks, orchestral pomp and complex structures make access difficult. Stomping catchy chords and heavy blasts blend with enigmatically shimmering guitars; the artists add a symphonic note and heroic pathos. The sustained parts of the epic Righteous Indoctrination briefly offer something to hold on to, but complex rhythms soon shred the catchy mood. The finale Horror Code combines doomy grooves and subtle orchestration in a more coherent way and releases us with pompously pumping riffs and menacing vocals.
For me, this album makes a jittery, hectic impression, too many time changes and keyboard gimmicks as well as orchestral paste overwhelm the listener. Many good ideas are robbed of their impact by the rapid succession of the same. The individual parts do not always come together to form a coherent whole.
