How fucking great is that? A promo lands on me desk, prompts me to get a first audible impression via myspace and blasts me off with Everything Must Die. Geez, what a killer song! A distinct guitar riff rocks down the earth with a much filthy attitude, enriched with a proper portion of Southern Rawwwk, while alternating singing – Whiskey-soaked, raw and gruffy on one side, clean and melancholic on the other – drives me mad. This song spreads such intensive vibes, you know, when a desert embraces you, appetite for parties, Rock’n’Roll, on the highway – topless – driving into the sundown. This song kicks ass and makes you smile. What catchy tune! Once heard you won’t get it out of your headanymore!
Hailing from Helsinki, this Finnish trio established this energetic outburst known as ONE EYE SHUT in 2003, with a promo CD and two singles under their belt. In 2007 these dudes felt that singles suck and full-length albums rule (you’re so right!) and came up their first record lovely entitled Turds In A Punchbowl.
In fact this record is a just retrospective of all past song creations. Turds In A Punchbowl looks back kicking off with two brand new songs (Everything Must Die, Please Let Go), the singles Days In The Sun (Days In The Sun, Yearning, World Behind), the Last In Line (Last In Line, Crash’N’Burn) and the first output Promo 2004 (Tonight, Reflection, Yearning).
The disadvantage of this story is the fact no following song can’t reach the level of Everything Must Die. They kind of pale compared with the one, although they still rock and follow same stylistic paths: a mélange of Southern Rock, with a dash of Stoner Rock, Doom and Psychedelic. Please Let Go and Days In The Sun close in and prove the guys right, but the rest is not that stringent anymore. And of course there is a qualitative gap between the old and the newer stuff; ONE EYE SHUT went on developing after all.
At the end a couple of live tracks got hid, not really essential if you ask me.

Ok guys, Everything Must Die is now your benchmark. Don’t hesitate and start working on a real new album full of songs that top this single one and I will lie to your feet ;)
