Götterlieder
is almost a little gem of pagan musical art. On ODROERIR’s
sophomore the Thuringians (consisting members of XIV Dark Centuries
and Menhir) commit themselves to the Edda, especially the Snorra
Edda. They tell the story of the never-ending emptiness, the first
day of being, creating Midgard and the humans. They narrate about
the first war and genocide, Aesirs, the brilliant art of dwarfs,
knowing witches, intrigues, Met, sages and a virgin maid.
Songs are mostly acoustic, living on its guitars, monumental choirs
and wonderful melodies. Lyrics quickly captivate and take the listener
into the realm of myths and legends. It doesn’t take many
runs and you will sing along feeling the taste of Met in your throat
;) Distorted guitars – with a quite headstrong sound –
add force and power to martial background of such songs as Wanenkrieg,
Odroerir and Zwergenschmiede; just to get softened
by female singing and mellow tunes afterwards. Besides acoustic
and distorted guitars one will find all kinds of drums and the haunting
dirge of a violin. Jew’s-harp and flutes you can hardly sense
out. I wish they would be more dominant at times. There are quite
many solos, not bad, yet not forcing enough to be used that often.
Just to mention that, it’s not anything that would reduce
the audible pleasure in any way.
Götterlieder – the songs of
the Gods – is an album growing and developing with every run.
Singings and harmonies start to melt into each other getting stuck
in your ears forevermore. Every song has its own fascination. A
wonderful piece of music! |
