With their
debut album Vergangenheit released back in '95,
the Norse mastodons from NoPlaceToHide sent an advanced
demo to their sophomore Zukunft, which shall be
released after founding a proper distro. This demo tape gives
us 5 tracks which shows a completely other side of NoPlaceToHide.
After further demo releases and line-up changes the refreshed
band starts out into the new ( almost old ) millennium with a
new singer and guitarist. The music is now in some ways more catchy
and reflects significantly treats of American New Metal, especially
from bands like Fear Factory and Machine Head, with c-tuned guitars
and typical riffs. The new singer Hzez only screams and shrieks
and can't convince really. The acoustic parts are almost completely
missed. There is just the touch of former crazy solos and arrangements
left. On the other hand the sound gained a lot of power and heaviness.
Nevertheless NoPlaceToHide has lost a lot of their unique
identity while ironing their former edges smoothly. So they just
joined the queue of endless similar acts without attracting any
attention. That's a pity.
P.S. In the
meantime the new singer is out again.
