Canadians
are crazy. That was the first thing coming to my mind while I
was listening to the latest NEURAXIS album. The
North-Americans sound like a hybrid of Cryptopsy, Gorguts and
old Kataklysm, which are also Canadians. If I would have to create
a description for NEURAXIS’ music I would
call it “chaotic progressive grinding death metal”.
The guys are taking clean passages, Swedish melodies and dissonant
riffs and throw everything with nearly 87,5 breaks per song into
a liquidiser. The result is small, silver and is named Truth
Beyond…. NEURAXIS’
music is extremely complex and technical but unfortunately the
songs aren’t very catchy. The Canadians are filling every
track with the mentioned elements. Because of that it is very
difficult to distinguish the songs. Nevertheless you don’t
have the apprehension that the Canadian lumberjacks might loose
the control of their progressive axe. Technical the musicians
are really excellent. Especially drummer Alex Erian accomplishes
incredible things and the production has also turned out very
well but Truth Beyond…doesn’t
completely accommodate my taste. In my opinion the songs suffer
from a lack of structure but if you are into bands like Gorguts,
Cryptopsy or Cephalic Carnage you could like this album. Subjectively
I would rate Truth Beyond… with
six points, objectively seven are adequate.
