NECROMANCIA
are one of the very few cases, which is for me in some kind of
foggy zone of bands which I don’t like really, but which
are way too good to be bad. Principally Check Mate
should be an album for me, if I look just at the elements they
use. The CD is very thrashy and combines elements from the Sepultura
Roots era (without Soulfly elements) and new (but not totally
new) Metallica. This combination results in very heavy riffs und
a lot of hints to Bay Area stuff, but it doesn’t strike
me right in the middle, when I hear the songs. By the way, the
guys are certainly NOT bad in matters of songwriting or in technical
matters, but I miss the specific point in NECROMANCIA,
which urges me forward to hear the songs again and again. The
cover version of Overkill proves my opinion for myself. They play
the song very well, but the original strikes me a lot more than
this version here. But Thrash fans can certainly get friends with
Check Mate, because the stuff I said
here is a very subjective opinion from me. Who likes a band which
sounds in between new Sepultura and Metallica, should listen to
Check Mate in the store to get an own
opinion.
