Next year will start very promising, that’s for sure, because the Finnish label Spinefarm added the hot potato NAILDOWN to the artist rooster. The mixture of the Norsemen is not new at all - they take a dash of Children Of Bodom’s power (but more melodic and varying), the melodies of Edge Of Sanity and flavours with a portion like it is common in Thrash Metal. In addition, there are some Death Metal riffs, vocal lines Hypocrisy’s Peter would be proud of, clear vocals like Soilwork, Callenish Circle’s impelling guitar work, few keyboards, a clear and heavy sound, delight in playing – that’s an album for parties and good humour, but presented with necessary draft. Some electronic influences actually appear, a marginally distorted voice (just listen to Eyes Wide Open) finds the way to my ear und move NAILDOWN temporary close to Peter Tägtgren’s project Pain. The title track starts in an acoustic and quiet way, but this is only the calm before the storm; marginal electronic gimmicks, impulsive drumming, sharp and clocked guitar riffs, marvellous melodies and a memorable refrain show the band’s compositional creativity.
The first step to conquer the world is done, for a debut album (apart from a single in 2005) World Domination is really of sensational quality. The great diversity puts the missing self-reliance into perspective absolutely - many well-known ingredients develop coherent songs. This kindling mixture must kick ass on stage for sure, but there have not been many concerts in the past, so that the label has to work to push NAILDOWN forward with promotion!
