MY SILENT
WAKE did an egregious album with the predecessor The
Anatomy Of Melancholy, but that instance could also be
a burden! How should the band manage to reach this quality level
again?
I’d
say that the music of the British band is a little bit harder
to consume this time, by reason that A Garland Of Tears
does not offer such obvious melodies. This case seems very positive
at second sight, because the compositions are built up in a multilayer
way. Thereby the impelling Death Metal part reigns for most of
the time and the concluding song Wilderness Of Thorns speeds
up in Black Metal manner well and truly. Every now and then, the
musicians offer some borne interplays or elements for relaxation.
Surprisingly, the pure instrumental track Pendulum features
some flutes and consequently a slight folk influence.
Oftentimes the presentation of both music and vocals is quite
hefty, but the convenient clear voice comes into operation too.
In the end a homogenous overall picture is the result of the harmonious
oscillation between heavy, but at no time clumsy Doom-elements,
groovy dark Metal and fast Death Metal parts. I only miss some
outstanding direct hits.
For sure this is not fundamental for MY SILENT WAKE: they
want to offer demanding music to all Doom/Death addicts –
and they did it best with their latest effort…
A Garland
Of Tears presents many sentiments without pathos, alternation
without hustle as well as heaviness without speed orgies. In short:
an indulgence after a short start-up time!
