Due to the info sheet the Brazilian guys of MUSICA DIALBO, founded by Guillotine’s and Nitrominds’ (Braz. Hardcore/Thrash band) vocalist/guitarist Andre NM, started in 2008 playing cover versions of Kreator, Nuclear Assault and Municipal Waste. To really get the thing going and unleash some own material onto the world they recruited Sepultura’s genius frontman Derrick Green. Well, so what can now be expected when taking a look at those various backgrounds? Right – a straight punch in the face. And what a punch this is!
On their self titled debut, MUSICA DIABLO open fire with one old-school Thrash grenade after the other and with their ceaseless riff-attacks to me sound like a way more angry and brutal version of Exodus and especially Testament, being completed by Slayer- and Sepultura-like frenzy. The guitar fraction comes along with riff after riff, not every single one being totally catchy but definitely always placed at the right moment, and furthermore serving whipping leads and solos.
In terms of speed MUSICA DIABLO also are in the front row and hit the pedal straight but always manage to loosen up the songs by extremely mosh-compatible breaks.
In addition to this Derrick Green roars, screams, rages, nags and barks himself through the songs and once more shows of what presence and power he is capable of. To me he surely is one of the best aggressive vocalists and the perfect choice for the sound of MUSICA DIABLO.
By unleashing all their anger and frenzy, MUSICA DIABLO partly loose the thread at the end of album and due to this some of the later songs rush away without making a real appointment, however they easily compensate this with the strong mid part and songs like the grooving Live To Buy, the even Death/Black Metal touching Underlord or the gang-shout filled Workout as well as the directly hitting fist-raiser In The Name Of Greed.
Looking at all factors I have to say that this truly is the formerly mentioned punch in the face and highly enjoyable. All around a nicely done, diverting album, which every thrasher should at least try out.
