First of all I want to wear sackcloth and ashes, because MOSHQUITO were not on my personal metal map till the enjoyment of Behind The Mask. Thereby the band exists since the late eighties! Fortunately this instance has changed, though I would have missed a fine release causing a lot of acoustic fun.
On the one hand, MOSHQUITO know how to play because of their long-term experience, so that the tunes are arranged felicitously and competently. Despite, the guys sound very refreshing, playful and energetic. The necessary drive interlaces with filigree, progressive guitar work, offering the one or other slightly crazy chord. This is one main reason that Behind The Mask pleases me in this amount, because the partly insane solos remind me of the blessedly Death-master Chuck Schuldiner, who would like this homage I guess. The eminently melodic solos are outstanding and contribute egregious highlights to the compositions. Sometimes MOSHQUITO throttle the speed in their powerful compositions deliberately. The sluggish parts, like in the title track Behind The Mask or in the beginning of State Of The Rat (a little masterpiece with acoustic interplays!) fit the acoustic puzzle harmonically. Additionally, singer Michael Morgenstern sounds conveniently aggressive and dark, but also easy to understand.

You like your Death Metal very melodic and slightly progressive? You do not need permanent high-speed? Then MOSHQUITO would be a very good choice as musical companions for 50 minutes!
