Hmm, Alternative Rock is a two-edged thing. Often enough bands end up as plagiarism, mostly of bands like Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains. New-made Grunge with some new metal elements is something people nowadays call new rock, or something like that. Scares a lot, because typical clichés mostly get exorbitant stressed. Today such style sounds like Nickelback, Creed, Puddle Of Mud and other ones, added by this overloaded, pathetic, dumpling-like singing. As I said, a typical copy…
In this way, MAFUBA do many things the wrong way. They serve of all of mentioned clichés and so I already could finish this review. But, EddiVedderbeblessed, MAFUBA deeply grab into the bag of tricks and break out of the standard kit. They have written very well-done, atmospheric songs, like the grandiose All, or let flow in crazy riffs and tricky rhythms, making the self-titled album to a varied and partly even thrilling record. Not really original but still entertaining.
Okay, singing is great; this man knows what he does. It’s just this dumpling-like singing gets on nerve, latest with the third track.
This review might now sound negatively but it’s criticism on this blimpish genre… MAFUBA acquit themselves more than just well. They have a couple of hits up their sleeves, enough to skim 7.5 points.
