On their newest output Lady Summer’s Blood notorious vagabonds LST made a significantly turn back to their black metal roots, now offering a black’n’roll mix, but still with many slow passages blended in. Deadly funny and perfectly suiting the album’s intention the intro, where you can hear a bottle of beer that gets opened and emptied with the obligatory belch afterwards ;)
While God Won’t Help completely displays an entertaining punky attitude with tightened pace, Life Fails falls back into the doomy fields LST was poaching in on earlier release. Groovy riffing please the ears just to kick ass at the end with this black’n’roll party mood. Ace Of Hate kicks off the same way with dark, oppressive and lava-like tunes, dipping the listener into its own depression, but not for long since the Austrian mates lurk with another party part. On The Blood Of This Midsummernight the guys turn the tables and start very punky, but surprise with romantically melancholic guitar and solo work that almost seamlessly leads over to Dying Swan No More, the last song on this EP. Here they present again everything in matter of great doom riffing and finish with a cocky punk’n’roll attitude.
Altogether a varied record, entertaining and displaying the fun the gents have while playing this style of music. And they don’t take themselves too serious. Although the singing of Mr. Polsi adds a black metal-like touch Lady Summer’s Blood goes mainly into a more punk-like direction, mixed up with some doooooom. The ufta-sound is for my taste a bit too tame and not mangy enough. I think much more power and aggressiveness could have put into it.

Lady Summer’s Blood spends fun permanently bringing a big grin on the face. Stick to that sound guys, just jazz it up! By the way... Lady Summer’s Blood can be completely downloaded from the band’s website. For free!!!
