The short career of Austrian band LORDS OF DECADENCE sounds like a fairy-tale. Here are some highlights: final of European band contest Emergenza. Opener of Summer Breeze Festival 2004 on Main Stage or best newcomer 2004 in Rock Hard magazine.
The mixture of the Viennese music cocktail tastes fine, but unfortunately it is far away being inventive or self-contained. This is the big disadvantage of Cognitive Note Of Discord although their performance concerning technique is really good. Every second I am reminded of bands like Children Of Bodom or Soilwork and talking about the first song Relationship Erased I have to mention that it is hard on the edge between inspiration and stealing ideas… but nevertheless the ten songs amuse, because of delight in playing and technical finesse. Especially the lead guitar conjures fine melodies and chords supported by the impulsive rhythm section which provides a twinkle-toed galloping framework. The boys steam in high speed on Melodic Death bar and the songs accompanied by cool melodies; the keyboard is also present, but it enriches and does not act in the foreground obtrusively.
Cognitive Note Of Discord is quite well done for a debut album, but in the future the young band has to take care of autonomy in song writing, otherwise they run the risk of being dismissed as a poor copy of Swedish archetypes mentioned above. This is the reason why the album is only above-average.
