Yeah, LIMBONIC ART are finally back. After Daemon and Morfeus decided to take a creative break back in 2003, the band re-spawned in proper style on 06/06/06. From then on it still took some time, until the next news concerning the band was spread. But when the first new song could be listened on the bands MySpace page, it was obvious that it had been worth waiting for.
Differently to the not-so-strong departure with An Ultimate Death Worship, the duo now was able to partway revert to what the name LIMBONIC ART represented in earlier days, although they do not focus on symphonic and bombastic song writing as much as they did on e.g. Moon In The Scorpio. So, to simply call A Legacy Of Evil a melodic or symphonic Black Metal record would not do justice to the album. The listener gets much more than average Black Metal with lots of standard keyboards and arrangements. Most of the time, the speed is on a very high level, driven by a fortunately never unrealistic drum computer, while the guitar and keys generate the typical speedy mixture of harshness and melodies. But it would not be a LIMBONIC ART album, if that was it all. Of course, influences from other Metal styles such as Death and Thrash can be found. But also several really “weird” parts can be found: For example, the opener A Cosmic Funeral Of Memories comes up with some nice oriental sounding tunes. And Twilight Omen features the strangest intro for a Black Metal track I heard in ages. Imagine the evil twins of Danny Elfman and the Secret Chiefs 3 contributing the three minute beginning… to be followed by a Thrash Metal hammer that even Slayer would be proud of, as a transition to the furious Black Metal main part of the track. And for all those, who liked the outstanding slow track Source To Agonies on the Epitome Of Illusions album, A Legacy Of Evil also holds a calm and melodious track called Grace By Torments, where Daemon shows that his voice hasn’t lost anything of its intensity.
The only thing I did not like one-hundred-percent, was the partially to plain and sterile sound, what keeps me from giving ten points. But nevertheless, A Legacy Of Evil by LIMBONIC ART is without doubt the comeback of the year!
