Let us dance and take our horns filled with met for to celebrate this masterpiece of Folk Metal entitled Voice Of Wilderness! The music is very well played, so that every fan of bands like Finntroll and Ensiferum can be satisfied!
In addition to the fine music, I have to mention the rough and a little bit sottish sounding voice of Jonne positively, which adds zest to KORPIKLAANI´s compositions. The voice reminds me of older Sentenced(the album Amok comes to my mind). Most of the time, Jonne uses his vocal chord raspy-throaty, but as a contrast there are some whispered parts (Spirit Of The Forest) to build up certain suspense to grade up the interesting sound accessorily.
The instrumentation exceeds the normal “guitar – bass – drums” thing, often flute, violin, accordion or jouhilkko (an old Finnish string instrument) enrich the scenery enormously. The speed oscillates between solemn parts as well as rapid components and both varieties can elate me. Every time I listen to these “Humppa”-melodies I like to shake a leg and all traditional melodies are taking me back to the times when Viking warriors celebrated their victory with horns raised heavenwards.
KORPIKLAANI are able to ascend the same level as the bands mentioned above and they have the chance to hold this position for a long time because of their fresh delight in playing.
