Most of the
metal that comes from South America is quite impressive. Columbia’s
HORNCROWNED is no exception to the rule. Spawned in 2002
and leaving a path of unholy desecrating black metal tunes in
their wake ever since. Casus Belli Antichristianus
is their third full length release.
If you were
to actually play this album without knowing anything about HORNCROWNED
you would not know they are from South America. Their style of
black metal gives hints to influences of Marduk and sometimes
Dark Funeral. When it comes to the category of speed HORNCROWNED
delivers, each song contains blast beat assaults from beginning
to end. The guitars are full of plenty aggressively fast tremolo
picking and turned up in the mix, in fact, sounding like possessed
demons on speed. The vocals of Demongoat are scream growled reminding
me quite of Marduk. The lyrics are intelligently evil, within
each song lay the Satanic undertones that overtly rise up and
conquer the song. The more I listen to Casus Belli Antichristianus
the more taken I am by this album. At first listen I wasn’t
all that impressed, but it’s the type of album you must
listen to many times to fully appreciate it. After each listen
you tend to catch things that you didn’t hear the first
time. That is how you know you have made an album with impact.
HORNCROWNED is definitely worth checking out if you are
into fast and aggressive Satanic Black Metal with war overtones.
I am impressed and I hear HORNCROWNED have recently released
a few splits since this album was released.
