I
wasn’t expecting much before I heard GOJIRA’s
The Link. Before this I heard a couple
of songs that were not really giving me the full picture of this
good French band. The songs I heard were definitely not “moving”
me in any way. However, GOJIRA not only proved
me wrong, but also slapped me twice with this re-release of their
second album.
Creative, powerful and innovative music is what we find in The
Link, all combined with excellent rhythmical experimentation
that, at some point, reminds me of the old good days of the excellent
Swedish band Messhuggah.
GOJIRA has no respect for the classic/normal rhythms
and musical orders… They take it one step beyond. Their songs
sound like they make their own way, from typical death metal beats,
hardcore beats to even some grind beats, it also features guitar
arpeggios, some instrumental arrangements that I couldn’t
figure out what they are and much more.
The Link has a good production, this kind
of music is not meant to be noisy or crude in sound, this kind of
production allows you to hear every single detail and change.
This album has high moments all the time… the music changes
so much, which is good and bad since sometimes is difficult to keep
up to the pace and some other times sounds ideal, this would be
the weak side of the album since can get a bit tiring at some point
(Connected, Embrace The World).
Nevertheless, I can’t omit the great moments GOJIRA
is achieving in songs like The Link, Dawn (this
one should be in a movie!), Death Of Me and many more.
GOJIRA’s new release is a good album that
you should get if you want to hear something different and playful,
The Link is a nice DM performance that goes technical/industrial,
revolves to basics and ends in pure madness! Go get your copy! |
