FIDDLER’S
GREEN plays Speed Folk? Yes, this self-created synonym
for the style hits the nail on the head; the exact denomination
is Irish Independent Speed Folk. This DVD is full of good humor,
arisen at first by a concert with perfect sound, light and camera
work. The band is in agitation all the time and the fiddler’s
grimaces are more than worth seeing. The above mentioned camera
work is brilliant in its cut which is convenient for the watcher’s
eye; the sound is clear but not polished. The audience is integrated
in the show cleverly, just see the song Donkey Ride (some
men are used as “donkeys“, they have to carry the
girlfriends on their shoulders and dance around!); the crowd sings
along all the time during classics like County Down,
Rocky Road To Dublin or Too Drunk. I want to
highlight the vocal performance which is exceedingly well done;
the solo chants as well as the parts for several voices show the
quality of the band. In addition to this spoiling of ears and
eyes one can find a lot of other special features on this felicitous
DVD. The fan is happy with 8 video clips from 1993 up to 2002,
furthermore the “Greencuts” offer personal and alacritous
views behind the scenes, it’s amusing to watch all these
air guitar excesses or grimace competitions!
This well made compilation is really recommendable and if you
get the chance to see this band live on stage, then be there –
the FIDDLER’s are on the road these days!
