My first contact
with FALLEN YGGDRASIL took place this year at
Ragnarök Festival in Lichtenfels/Germany. On this Pagan Metal
concert event singer Simon announced the band as “miscast
of the festival” and therefore collected a lot of sympathy
points. On stage the musical achievement was outstanding and the
musicians were looking very friendly, not the grim metal faces.
The same positive charisma is shown on the enclosed band photos
– all members are laughing – cool!
I like this way of Death Metal with partly Thrash vocals and the
three songs on Prospect Of Prey find
my favor after the first few chords. FALLEN YGGDRASIL’s
mixture consists of melodic Death Metal elements, fragmentary
Hardcore eruptions (can be heard in the first song Save Me
as well as in the following In The Fire) and up-tempo
passages connected to a cohesive entity. On top of everything
there is some space left for groovy parts to bang one’s
head. Vocalist Simon changes from Thrash-like screeches to deep
growls – this antiphon is excellent in the above mentioned
track In The Fire. The best song was placed at the end
of Prospect Of Prey, namely Memory
Assassin: continuous first-class guitar melodies, diversified
structure and impressing vocals turn this track into a real enjoyment.
In this good shape I am really curious about the full album -
these three songs deliver an appetizing foretaste!
