DYING EMBERS‘ Where Shadeless Dwell Frozen is the solo effort of Jürgen Schurz (Unhallowed). Listening to this album really make me wonder, how anyone can consider this related to Death Metal in any way. It should at least have some traces of rebellion left but here you get music that won‘t hurt you while riding an elevator or shopping at the mall. If this was an 3-song-EP, I‘d say „OK, nice listen.“ But this full length approach just shows how limited the means and ideas are. There‘s some nice melodies flowing into the ears, lacking the hooks to keep them in your mind. The vocals could be cool as an effect but used throughout all the songs with nearly no variation kills it. He‘s just a mumbling dark voice without any real feeling. If you name influences like In Flames, Sentenced, Dark Tranquillity, you should at least have some of their energy on offer, too. Where Shadeless Dwell Frozen is just Dead To The World. All is played nicely; some short growl parts show that not all hope is lost. In the end, this supports my theory about one-man-“bands“. A single person can create a nice effort but a band is more than the addition of its parts and I‘d name Iron Maiden, where the different personalities of Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson created the biggest Heavy Metal band and hymns for centuries. Nice try, Jürgen, would be awesome if you put up a real band and work on something new.
