I was turned
on to MARTIN DUMAIS by his main project AUN, I discovered
some time ago. Hailing from Montréal, Canada, MARTIN
DUMAIS is an exceptional musician, sound artist and label
director. Every now and then he seemingly steps aside under his
given name and released two albums Field and Cordo
in 2007.
Field is a four-track piece of chiming tones you
think he might have recorded on a beautiful but icy cold winter
day in an ice cave with hundreds of dripping and tinkling icicles.
It’s more a sequence of these minimalist chiming tones than
a built melody, but perfectly reflects on this winterly image.
Changeovers are seamless and let the listener enjoy an ongoing
sound experience.
MARTIN DUMAIS does not differ too much musically from his
main project. Field just has a more minimalist and
experimental approach, focuses more on the Ambient aspects than
on the Industrial art. But if you like what he does in AUN,
you will easily get into Field too.
