When I hear the word doom music there is one thing I am expecting, music that is heavy as fuck!  Florida’s DRUID LORD is just that. Keeping things old school with Baron Blood, a new single they have released on vinyl only through Doomentia Records. My copy is blood red, fitting as the music sounds as if it were made while blood was being spilled! It also comes with a nifty poster complete with lyrics and band photos. With one full length and several splits, Baron Blood is the sixth release for DRUID LORD. With limited copies in print this one is sure to be on the doom collector’s menu.

The title track starts out with a scary movie intro to set the brooding mood. Then the bottom drops out and the slow groove of the guitars seep in like mud pouring into a grave. Tuned to hellish depths, slow motion solos erupt via Pete Slate. You might recognize his unique sound from his earlier bands Acheron and Equinox. Bassist/Vocalist Tony Blakk’s growls of death mesmerize the listener and engrosses them within the gory tales being told as the music proceeds. The drums of course are like a death march, and very rhythmic. DRUID LORD’s music could actually become a soundtrack for a horror movie given the grotesquely proper circumstances. The atmosphere they create is thick and heavy like a fog in the cemetery under a fully lit moon. Baron Blood shows praise to one of classic cult horror’s greatest directors Mario Bava, and upon hearing it you will know why. On the flip side the song Monarch Macabre is just creepy in every way, shape, and form. The guitars on this song are hefty, meandrous, and menacing. The vocals, a treacherous tale and again I find myself getting lost within the song, transported to a dark world of castles, dungeons, horror, and death!  Baron Blood captures a murky atmosphere that exudes pure evil, proving that DRUID LORD is one of the most intense doom bands in existence on earth. In the world of occult metal DRUID LORD has nailed the coffin of doom.
