Where does one begin to best describe groove metal? Well let me say this that Germany’s own DRIVEN BY IMPACT turns up the volume of sound with Seeking Embers. When listening to the entire EP several times over the course of a few days the longer that I listened to this, the more that it grew on me. As to why? It just has that driven sound of where melodic death metal has that groovy punch touch that is so mentally satisfying that it just makes you want to grab a few brews with some close friends and head out to a metal show for some kick ass tunes.
Seeking Embers has an extreme quality to it but when you hear the off tempos and the melodic gusto of front man Jörg Becker this EP really has what it takes to land their mark upon the metal scene. First song Booze Bust just has me cracking up by the mere title itself and maybe the lyrics, the rest of this track really gives the listener an ear full. Both guitars forge a style of fast riffing to the extreme drumming. Talk about sheer intensity without going to brutal.
Song five Building Fear tears into velocity with its whirl wind guitar riffing to the rhythm section of bass guitar and drums that showcase some real power-driven music. Extreme but yet not so extreme the song is catchy by far. Last track Monstrosity Of Life begins some round about in your face chunky guitars to vocals that blend with some harsh singing that might be called melodic screamo, but change. Overall, this EP offers some simplistic tunes that slap you from the inside out without taking you somewhere else. Seeking Embers in its recording entirety is well done and huge credit goes out to these guys for polishing such an experience.
Reflecting as to what style DRIVEN BY IMPACT can be compared to? When listening to them some might hear the energies of Lamb Of God to Bullet For My Valentine within their sound, but the group delivers their own style that is sure to please anyone. Way to go!!!
