The undisputed queen of metal, DORO PESCH, is back. This time with another double album release of unmitigated favorites with Under My Skin - A Fine Selection Of Doro Classics. She is also employing the help of the Classic Night Orchestra to put a new spin on old Warlock classics. DORO has been commanding metal masses with her vocals since 1983 and it doesn’t look like she is going to stop any time soon. Her voice is still as powerful as it was in the beginning. Now onto the music.

Disc one gets things rolling with the Warlock classic All We Are. Instead of leaving it in its original form, it has been remixed and over layed with more vocals. Maybe to amp it up more for the fans, however, this song in its original form could have spoken well for itself. There are four Warlock songs in total included on Under My Skin. The others are I Rule The Ruins, Metal Tango, and Für Immer and all are re done with an orchestra. It is interesting to say the least. The rest of the album goes onto cover songs from various albums and time spans since DORO stepped out on her own. Some are good, but after awhile, unless you are a hard core DORO fan this album gets boring fast. A few songs that stand out are Night Of The Warlock and Herzblut. Now onto disc two. The most interesting song featured on here would be DORO’s cover of the Judas Priest classic Breaking The Law. Which is completely re arranged and actually sounds amazing. DORO also throws in a few songs in her native German language which is always lovely to hear. My complaint is that most of the songs on Under My Skin don’t rock as hard as you would imagine they should. Even though DORO is a power house vocalist the music that backs her up is rather lacking and weak. It's like a torch that is going out, needing more fuel. Half way through it is very hard to continue listening without stopping and coming back to it later. Though the days of Warlock are long and far gone, I think DORO shined best when she was with them. One can only hope for a Warlock reunion in the future. That aside Under My Skin also comes with three videos for the songs Warrior Soul, Let Love Rain On Me and Herzblut. The real treat is the booklet with handwritten liner notes and exclusive photos from DORO herself.
