DJEVELKULT present their black metal interpretation in a varied and captivating shape. Aggressive and venomous, especially with regard to the voice, the mangy projectiles whip out of the boxes, but the musicians mix complex beat changes and an extremely digestible Black'n'Roll attitude into the song structures. Beautiful leads combine with blasts to create an exciting conglomerate of contrasts. Already the title track Drep Alle Guder possesses all these qualities and accordingly the album starts with an acoustic exclamation mark.
Although the pieces come quickly to the point, each composition offers acoustic delicacies and plenty of flowing tempo changes. Groovy vehemence is spiced with nasty vocals, doomy heaviness and sometimes slightly dissonant discomfort.
The guitar solos seem organically perfectly fitted and underline the variable effect of this work, which is not afraid to shift down a few gears to glide along quite relaxed. Sultry moments determine the beginning of I Kuldens Vold and let a Norwegian fjord landscape pass before the mind's eye. Later the sonic storm breaks loose, which penetrates vehemently into the listener's heart, powerful and highly melodic at the same time.
DJEVELKULT have the knack: on Drep Alle Guder mostly raw and mangy aggressiveness reigns, but shimmering lead guitars, perfectly placed time and tempo changes, epic choirs or snappy rock elements keep the music exciting, provide surprising relief and guarantee interesting mood changes. In short: a true listening pleasure!
