No big surprise,
that the much hyped Rebirth Of Dissection
is being exploited commercially as a DVD, a few months before
the rebirth will be over and the band comes to their self-announced
end. Only a few concerts are going to be played this summer, and
after those, according to mastermind Jon, DISSECTION
have completed their mission with the new album Reinkaos.
The concert which marked the point of the rebirth took place on
October 30 2004; only one and a half month after Jon had been
released from jail on probation.
Of course the band’s original line-up did no longer exist,
only Jon was left. The band was completed by some well known names:
Seth Teitan (Aborym) playing the bass, Thomas Asklund (Dark Funeral),
working on the drums, and the former Nightrage-guitarist Brice
Leclerq (who already parted ways again in 2005).
Due to the
unbroken myth of DISSECTION there was a hell
of a run on the tickets for the Rebirth show, the organizers even
had to upgrade the location as they could sell almost twice as
many tickets as calculated before. The big audience caused an
enormous atmosphere, which has been captured quite impressive
on the DVD.
The film starts around two minutes before DISSECTION
entered the stage, providing a look at the stage with a grim reaper
and two crossed scythes, and the fans chanting DISSECTION.
Then, to the intro tunes of The Fathomless Depths, the
new formed quartet comes upon the stage and starts off with Nights
Blood as opener. In the following 90 minutes, almost all
great songs from The Somberlain and
Storm Of The Light’s Bane are being celebrated
by both the band and the fans. Jon, who optically changed from
a slender, long haired young guy to the complete opposite, played
like in his best days and showed no sign of his long imprisonment.
Also his comrades in arms made an excellent job, the songs were
all played technically skilled and the sound was great, too. I
guess no much rework needed…The show was pretty much a single
highlight, except the strange Maha Kali with its weird
female vocals off the tape, which was obviously not liked by the
crowd. But with 14 outstanding songs versus one weak new track
it’s still a more than nice ratio ;)
The bonus
material is most likely something for hardcore-only fans, basically
consisting of a 25 minutes long interview with Jon. Anyone who
dares to listen to his kind of confusing and weird statements
and explanations can learn of the history of the band, its role
for the MLO (Misanthropic Luciferian Order) and so on.
The bonus material is completed by a DISSECTION
picture gallery and the video clip of the new song Starless
Aeon from Reinkaos, in my opinion
completely unnecessary, but of course promo for the new album…
At least I think this has not to be on a DVD which can impress
with all the great old tracks.
Altogether,
thanks to the really great concert, the Rebirth Of
Dissection is recommended for any DISSECTION
fan or those who want to check out why they are still that popular.
The atmosphere in the audience and the band is well captured,
and the songs themselves are of course beyond any doubt. My recommendation:
grab this DVD, since this will be one of the last outputs ever
by the band, besides the re-issues of the old albums!
