The description
Western Metal sounds positive, I thought about a diverting and
quite funny Rock’n’Roll party release…but DEZPERADOZ
deal with some serious background stories about a man sentenced
to death who killed his friend with a gun because of revenge.
Consequently the music is only partly swinging, catchy and packed
with a portion of pathos, but also steaming power. So the guitars
play many power chords and Alex Kraft’s voice transports
a lot of rough Western feeling. Of course the DEZPERADOZ
have fun in performing, but they do not want to arouse the impression
to be a pure fun group. The down-to-earth sound is another aspect
which underlines named atmosphere; the listener nearly feels the
desert sand in his face. Eminently the opening measures of some
tracks let appear a dusty road in a rotten Western town. Thereby
the DEZPERADOZ know how to present both dragging pieces
like Wild Bunch and heavier, firm neck breakers such as
Hate or Wild Times in adept manner. The guys do
not save on bombast at right places like the intro for Wild
Times shows. A while later groovy heavy rock reigns including
very melodic vocals never neglecting typical guitars in the background.
The band feels right in every tempo - that means that a pure ballad
found its way as well on An Eye For An Eye, namely
the Doors-cover track Riders On The Storm. Tom Angelripper
also appears on this release and takes part in Here Comes The
Pain and contributes to the work’s felicity. Afterwards
the depressed ballad Give Up evokes a mood like sitting
around a bonfire – the DEZPERADOZ juggle with sentiments
and speeds without thinking about consequences. Finally the album
dies away with the danceable and funny track 25 Minutes To
Go.
Especially this approach is guilty that An Eye For An Eye
is that divertive, alternation is presented the whole playtime
– partly thoughtful and then again uncontrolled blithesome.
This variety of moods awards DEZPERADOZ as winners and
they ride into sunset gloriously…
